Mothering

Before becoming pregnant and having my son, I didn't have any real 'ideas' about what kind of mother I wanted to be. When I became pregnant with Evan, I knew I wanted to stay at home with my child. I knew I wanted to breastfeed him. I knew I wanted to give birth in a natural, calm environment. I was lucky enough to have a very calm, uneventful pregnancy and natural birth in a midwife-led birthing centre and be home with my man and our new baby just 6 hours after giving birth.

My partner and I seem to have 'fallen' into attachment parenting. Our son is only just making his way into his own bed [he never slept a night in his cot! Thank goodness it was my old cot, and not an expensive new one!] and I sleep with him in there a good few hours a night. I do not believe in 'controlled crying' or 'crying it out', and therefore have fallen into a lovely bedtime routine of cuddling and feeding to sleep. Yes, my 2-and-a-half-year-old is still breastfeeding! After a few struggles when I started breastfeeding him when he was born [cracked nipples, bad positions, poor latch etc], our journey is going so well and will end when he has naturally finished. I am a great breastfeeding advocate and believe in education and support for new mothers who want to breastfeed their baby. I'd love to train as a counseller in the future to help fellow mummies.

I admit, I'm an old fashioned mama. I believe in holding your baby close and staying close for as long as possible. I don't like modern parenting fads - spending huge amount of money on fancy pushchairs and gadgets etc when all your baby wants is you. I love vintage toys. I hate toddler tablets. I love being outside with my boys and watching his little imagination grow.

Being a mummy is the best job in the world and I can't even imagine life before this gorgeous little boy!

  1. I am also a massive bf advocate - amazing that you have fed Evan for so long! Isabelle is almost 1 and I'm pretty sure we have a while left in our own bf journey :D

    1. Aww thank you so much. Before I had him, I knew I wanted to bf but didn't have a time frame on it. I read (and loved) Dr Sears and Mayim Bialik's books on attachment parenting and it just all clicked with me that that's what we have been just doing all along. I am sure you'll get there with Isabelle! It's an amazing journey for sure ... I am letting him self-wean and so far he is showing no sign of stopping! I'm proud to be still breastfeeding at 29 months :) x
